At the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, Fabian won the gold medal in the 10,000-meter kayak doubles event (43:37.0). He and his partner were the first-ever Hungarians to medal in a canoe-kayak competition.

Career Highlights:
Fabian was the winner of four World Kayak Championships and seven European championships. World titles: 1958 (K-2 10,000-meter), 1963 (K-2 10,000-meter and K-4 10,000-meter), and 1966 (K-2 10,000-meter). He is a member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
