A two-time Olympian for the Hungarian epee team, Gabor competed in the team and individual events at the 1960 Rome Games. Gabor was eliminated in the individual competition in the third round, but helped lead the Hungarian team to a fourth place finish.
Gabor returned to the Games in 1964 (in Tokyo), and fenced exclusively in the team epee competition. The Hungarians defeated Japan in the first round, Austria in the second round, and the Soviet Union in the third round. They then defeated Italy in the finals to capture the gold medal.
Career Highlights:
In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Gabor was one of the top fencers in the epee in the world. A member of the World Championship Hungarian epee team in 1959, he won the bronze medal at the 1961 World Games in the individual competition and then won the silver medal the following year. Gabor is a member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
