A two-time Olympian for Hungary, Farkas won a bronze medal in canoeing in the 10,000-meter Canadian doubles (55:15.6) at the 1956 Melbourne Games. Four years later, he returned to the Olympics and competed in the 1,000-meter Canadian doubles at the 1960 Rome Games. Farkas and partner Andras (Ras) Toro, won their preliminary heat with a time of 4:29.42, just .34 seconds ahead of the French team. In the final, Farkas and Toro won the bronze medal by finishing third with a time of 4:20.89 (.12 seconds behind second place Italy). The Soviet team won the gold medal with a time of 4:17.94 (Leonid Geischtor was a member of the Soviet team).
