Shemesh was a member of Israel's sailing team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and competed in the men's 470 event (two-person dinghy) with partner Shai Bachar. The duo finished in ninth place with a total of 90.70 penalty points; the gold medal-winning team (Spain) had 50.00 penalty points.
At the 1993 World Championships, Shemesh and Bachar finished in third place and won the bronze medal; they finished 17th in the 470 competition two years later.
