Elyav competed for the Israeli shooting team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and participated in the men's running game target event. He was in 13th place after the first day of competition with 288 points. Elyav finished 15th overall with a total of 564 points (the winner registered 673 points).
One of the best shooters in the world, Elyav finished in 36th place in the running game target competition at the 1999 Milan World Cup with 555 total points. He also finished in 28th place at the 1998 Munich World Cup competition in the same event.
