Green played football at Georgia Tech University and in the American Football League (AFL).

Career Highlights:
Green played as an end for Georgia Tech in the mid-1950s. In 1956, Tech had a terrific season, ranked No.4 in the nation with a record of 10-1-0 (7-1-0 in SEC). They outscored their opponents 248-47; their only loss was to No. 2 Tennessee. Tech played in the Gator Bowl, where they defeated No. 12 Pittsburgh, 21-14. During Jerry's next two seasons, Tech had a combined record of 9-8-3 and did not play in any bowl games.

Green graduated in 1959, and played for the Boston Patriots of the newly-formed American Football League in 1960. That season, Green caught three passes in two games for the Patriots, who finished 5-9-0 and out of the playoffs. One of Jerry's teammates was lineman Abe Cohen.

Green played end at Georgia Tech University from 1956-1958. He then played as an end with the Boston Patriots of the American Football League in 1960.
