Solomon played basketball at New York University in the 1950s and was the team's captain in 1953.

Solomon was a very good forward for NYU in the early 1950s. After the Violets had a record of 13-4 in 1951, they improved to 17-7 the following year and received an at-large bid to the NIT (National Invitational Tournament). In the first round, Mark scored 3 points, but NYU lost to Dayton, 81-66. In 1953, Solomon was team captain and NYU had a record of 10-11.
