This Olympic section is dedicated to the eleven Israelis murdered at the
Munich Olympics.  In the early morning of September 5, 1972, eight Palestinian terrorists entered the Olympic compound, shot and killed two Israelis, and took nine others hostage.  They demanded the release of over 200 imprisoned Palestinians and two German terrorists.  After unsuccessful negotiations, all the hostages were killed. That this would occur in Germany is a bitter irony; that it would happen anywhere is a sad commentary on how far the human race has yet to go to even approach the long-held dream of cultural and religious tolerance. We remember these athletes; we salute them; we honor them.
