Pintusevich-Block wins at World Championships over Marion Jones!

In a huge upset that ended Marion Jones' 4-year domination in the 100-meter sprint, Ukranian Zhanna Pintusevich-Block won the gold medal at the 2001 World Track and Field Championships with a time of 10.82 (a personal best). She led the race from the start, with Jones on her tail the entire way, but held on at the finish; Jones had won 42-consecutive finals in the 100-meter going back to 1997. The victory was especially sweet for Zhanna who thought she had defeated Jones at the 1997 World Championships and even started her victory lap before realizing that the judges had awarded the race to Jones. In 2001, Zhanna finally took her victory lap and was the center of attention at the World Championships. Click here to view the photo finish of the race.
