Kasper, Maurich

Kasper was a New York textile manufacturer and chess patron, known as the "Tex Rickard of chess." As president of the Manhattan Chess Club, he and Maurice Wertheim were responsible for gathering the best players for national title matches. They financed the U.S.-Russian matches, and raised funds, enabling Samuel Reshevsky to play in international tournaments.
