A member of the Soviet Union's Greco-Roman wrestling team at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, Gurevich won the gold medal in the flyweight division, becoming the first Jewish athlete to win an Olympic gold medal for the Soviet Union (it was the first time the USSR sent a delegation to the Olympic Games).

Boris Mendelovitch Gurevich is not to be confused with the Soviet wrestler, Boris Michael Gurevitch.

Career Highlights:
Gurevich won the World Championship in the Greco-Roman flyweight division in 1953 and 1955. He is a member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
