A member of the Israeli Olympic delegation at the 1972 Munich Games, Shapira was the head coach of Israel's track and field team. Shapira and ten other members of the Israeli delegation, were killed by Arab terrorists at the Games. He was 32 years old.

Career Highlights:
One of Israel's best short distance runners in the 1950s, Shapira became one of the country's top coaches in the 1960s. The New York Times stated that Shapira, "is given credit for having developed Esther Shahmorov [Roth], the sprinter..."
