A member of the Hungarian rowing team at the 1908 London Games, Levitzky participated in the single sculls competition and was an alternate for the eight-with-coxswain team (a coxswain directs and steers). In the single sculls, Karoly, a member of Hungary's National Rowing Club, easily won his first preliminary heat, but lost to eventual silver medalist Alex McCulloch of Great Britain in his next heat. Although defeated, Levitsky was awarded the bronze medal after a fine performance against McCulloch. The official Olympic Report stated, "Levitsky...never lost his pretty form start to finish, and was loudly cheered all over the course."
