Geller was a member of the Israeli wrestling team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and competed in the lightweight division (68-kg) in the freestyle discipline. In the first round, Geller defeated Jesus Rodriguez Garzon of Cuba on points, 2-1. In the second round of the tournament, however, he lost to Fatih Ozbas of Turkey, 2-0. Nevertheless, Geller advanced to the next round and faced Endre Elekes of Hungary, but both wrestlers were disqualified for passivity during their match, and Geller was eliminated from the competition. He officially finished in 11th place.

After leaving the Soviet Union in the late 1980s, Geller became Israel's top wrestler. In 1990 and 1991, he was the nation's wrestling champion, and finished second in the 1991 European Championships. The following year, Max finished seventh in the European Championships.
