Sorin was a member of the Argentian soccer team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, although he did not play in the Games. The Argentinians, one of the best teams in the world, won their preliminary group with a victory over the United States (3-1), and draws with Portugal (1-1) and Tunisia (1-1). They defeated Spain in the quarterfinals (4-0) and Portugal in the semifinals (2-0) to reach the final match. In the gold medal game, they lost to Nigeria 3-2 and were awarded the silver medal.
Career Highlights:
Sorin, a current member of the Argentinian national team, also plays for Italian club Lazio. An outstanding defender and midfielder, Sorin previously played for such top clubs as Juventus (Italy), River Plate (Argentina), and Cruzeiro (Brazil). In the fall of 2000, Sorin was linked with both Valencia and Napoli, and had even agreed to a transfer to Napoli, but backed out at the last minute. He played the rest of the season with Cruziero; according to www.soccerage.com (October, 2001), world powerhouse Lazio (Italian League) offered $20 million for Sorin, but Cruziero's chairman blocked the move. Sorin finally moved to Lazio in July 2002.
