Louis Farer

After playing for national powerhouses CCNY (City College of New York) and Columbia University in the 1920s, Farer played professionally for four years with the Knights of St. Anthony of Brooklyn (New York), Trenton, and Newburgh. He was the younger brother of former NYU and Columbia star, Charles Farer.

Career Highlights:
In 1922, Farer was named All-America as a member of the CCNY team that had a 10-2 record and was named the best in the East by the New York Times. In 1930, his coach at CCNY, the legendary Nat Holman, named Farer to his all-time All-Star CCNY team (Holman began coaching at Ctiy in 1920).

Two years later as a dental student, Farer suited up for Columbia and played guard during the 1924 season, leading the Lions to victories in their first 9 games. Early in the year, he was one of the best scorers in the Ivy League, averaging almost 10 points per game midway through the conference season. In late February, however, Farer was dropped from the squad for selfish playing as Columbia lost 4 games in a row. According to the New York Times (February 28, 1924) Farer, "...would undoubtedly be the best player in college circles today if he entered into team play..." Nonetheless, Farer finished tenth in the Ivy League in scoring with 39 points despite playing only seven games; Columbia finished 15-4 (6-4 in conference).
