Rubin played basketball at the University of Louisville in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He was a member of the 1951 team that advanced to the school's first-ever postseason appearance (in the NCAA tournament).

Career Highlights:
Rubin played guard at Louisville for three seasons and was a member of some very good teams. In 1949, the Cardinals finished 23-10 and then went 21-11 in 1950. In 1951, Rubin helped lead Louisville to a 19-7 record and at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. He scored 4 points and snatched 2 rebounds in their 79-68 first-round loss to rival (and No. 1) Kentucky. It was Louisville's first-ever postseason appearance.
