Career Highlights:
A three-year starter for Dartmouth in the 1920s, Friedman first played in 1923 as a center. That year, he finished third on the squad in scoring with 26 total points. Dartmouth finished with a 3-7 conference record, fifth in the Ivy League (then called the Eastern League). In Dartmouth's first victory of the season, Friedman was praised for "continually outjumping the Columbia player" in the Big Green's 32-29 win. (New York Times, February 23, 1923)
The Big Green had a mediocre year in 1924 (4-6 in conference, 11-9 overall), but Karl's senior season in 1925 saw a turnaround. Friedman, who scored 14 points in a 34-15 win over Yale in an early season matchup, helped lead Dartmouth to the top of the Ivy League standings six games into his senior season (1925). In the seventh game, the undefeated Dartmouth squad lost to eventual national champions Princeton, 28-21. Friedman scored five points in the contest. Dartmouth did not seem to recover from that loss and also dropped their next three conference games to finish 6-4 in the Ivy League (12-9 overall). Friedman, who played forward that year, was named All-Ivy second team, finishing fifth in the league in scoring with 58 points.
