The brother of Irwin Dambrot, Sid played at Duquesne University from 1951-1954, and was a member of the Dukes' NIT runner-up team in 1954.

Career Highlights:
Dambrot was a member of some strong Duquesne teams in the early 1950s. During the 1951-52 season, the Dukes had a record of 22-4, were ranked No. 4 (AP and UPI) in the nation, and were invited to both the NIT and NCAA tournaments. Dambrot scored 4.0 points per game in the NIT and Duquesne finished in fourth place. In the NCAA, the Dukes defeated Princeton in the East Semifinal and then lost in the Regional Final to Illinois.

In 1953, they finished 18-7, were ranked No. 9 by AP (No. 20 UPI), and returned to the NIT, finishing third in the tournament. In 1954, the Dukes returned to the NIT on the strength of a 24-2 record and the No. 3 UPI ranking (No. 5 AP). In the tournament, Sid averaged 5.0 points per game. Duquesne defeated St. Francis, 69-63, in the first round; and beat Niagara, 66-51, in the semifinal before losing, 71-62, in the final to Holy Cross.
