In 1960 and 1962, Greenberg was awarded the University of Dayton's John L. MacBeth scholar-athlete award. He was a member of the school's 1962 NIT (National Invitational Tournament) championship team.

A member of the gold medal-winning U.S. basketball team at the 1961 Maccabiah Games, Greenberg scored a team-high 19 points in the championship game against Israel (U.S. won 83-68). Among his teammates were Mike Cingiser, Art Heyman, and Larry Brown.

Career Highlights:
Greenberg played three seasons at Dayton on some very powerful teams. After a 14-12 season in 1959, the Flyers finished the following season ranked No. 20 (by UPI) with a record of 20-6. That year Greenberg won the Schoen Memorial Free Throw Award. The Flyers were invited to the NIT, and after defeating Temple, 72-51, in the first round, they lost in the next round to Bradley, 78-64. Greenberg averaged 8.5 points.

After missing the 1961 season (the cause is unknown), Greenberg returned to the Flyers in 1962. That year, he helped lead one of Dayton's greatest teams to a regular season record of 20-6 and a berth in the NIT. The Flyers proceded to defeat Wichita 79-71, trounce Houston 94-77, and beat Loyola (Illinois) 98-82, to reach the tournament final. Greenberg played in the championship game against St. John's but did not score. Nevertheless, Dayton emerged victorious by a score of 73-67, to capture the school's first tournament championship!
