Trupin, Danny

Daniel Trupin

Danny, the younger brother of Milt Trupin (an All-Metropolitan player in 1931), played at City College of New York in the 1930s and was a member of the 1932 and 1933 Eastern championship teams. The New York Evening Post wrote during Danny's junior year that he, "may not be as good a shot as his older brother Milt was when he played for [City], but the junior member of the family is the better court man."

Career Highlights:
Trupin, a forward, began his varsity career at CCNY in 1932, the year after his older brother (and All-Metropolitan performer) Milt Trupin graduated. The 1932 season saw the Beavers, led by legendary Hall of Fame coach Nat Holman win 16 of their 17 games to capture the mythical New York Metropolitan and Eastern championships. Their only loss was by three points to Temple and they outscored their opponents on the year, 573-327.

In 1933, during his junior season, Danny, along with senior captain Moe Spahn, juniors Moe Goldman, Art Kaufman and Pete Berenson, and sophomore Sam Winograd, helped the Beavers win their first seven games of the season. They then fell to St. John's, but proceeded to win the final six games of the year, including a 38-23 victory over rival NYU in the season finale, to finish the season with a record of 13-1. City College was again proclaimed Eastern and Metropolitan champions and Trupin was named All-Metropolitan honorable mention after scoring 40 points on the season (sixth on the team, 40th in the Met area).
