Joseph Davidoff

A member of the City College of New York (CCNY) Athletic Hall of Fame, Davidoff captained the City College team to the Eastern championship in 1932. Named All-Met that season, he was compared to Columbia University's All-America forward Lou Bender and was described as, "a smoother, more consistent performer."

In the early 1930s, Davidoff played at City College for legendary Hall of Fame coach Nat Holman, as New York City college basketball continued to increase in prestige and popularity. In 1930, Joseph's first varsity season with the Beavers, they finished the season with a solid 10-3 record. The following year, CCNY had a record of 12-4; two of their losses were delivered by the great St. John's 'Wonder Five' team (a team with five players who played four seasons together and lost only 8 games in that entire time).

In 1932, Davidoff captained the City College team that was rated as one of the top teams in the country with a record of 16-1 (by some estimates, No. 5; there was no official poll until the late 1940s). Named to the New York Evening Post's All-Metropolitan first team (a unanimous selection by the New York City coaches), Davidoff was described as, "the leading scorer of CCNY's Eastern championship team’recognized as a player who knows exactly what he is doing at all times – [he] probably is the best shot in the city, and his defensive work leaves nothing to be desired." Among his teammates that year were junior guard Moe Spahn, and sophomore center Moe Goldman.
