A sophomore at the University of San Diego, Fogel walked-on as a freshman in 2003-04 and finished the season in the starting line-up. During the 2004-05 season, the Toreros finished the regular season with a record of 16-13 (7-7 in conference). Fogel played in 20 games and averaged 6.9 points (sixth on the team), 3.0 assists (second on the team), and 2.0 rebounds per game. In San Diego's December 31 game against Creighton, Vogel scored a career-high 22 points (he also led the team with five assists in the game).
