A 6'6" junior guard/forward at Stanford University, Dan is the son of former NBA star and current Washington Wizards general manager Ernie Grunfeld. Despite missing the final nine games of the season due to a knee injury suffered on February 12, Grunfeld was named All-Pac 10 first team as Stanford finished the regular season with a record of 18-12 (11-7 in conference). The Cardinal are the No. 8 seed in the NCAA tournament in the Austin (South) Region and will play No. 9 Mississippi State in the first round on Friday, March 18.

Grunfeld, who was also named ESPN The Magazine second team All-American Academic selection, averaged 18.2 points, best on the team, and second in the Pac 10 conference in scoring, before he was injured. He was also adding 5.6 rebounds per game (second on the team), and 1.9 assists per game (third on the team). Grunfeld was described on the Stanford web site as a player who "can score in a variety of ways...a gifted passer with a great feel for the game."

Career Highlights:
After an outstanding career at Nicolet High School in Milwaukee, Grunfeld played as a freshman at Stanford in 2002-03. That year, Stanford finished with a record of 24-9 and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament before losing to Connecticut. Dan played in all 33 games and averaged 3.7 points per game.

As a sophomore, Grunfeld saw more playing time and averaged 3.4 points per game as the Cardinal finished the regular season with a 30-1 record and No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. In the second round of the tournament, however, they lost to Alabama, 70-67. He was named first team Pac-10 All-Academic.
