Zach is an effective and versatile player with a formidable outside shot. After an impressive sophomore season at Indian Hills Community College in the 2003-04 season, Silverman signed with Division I school Youngstown State University, in Ohio. A capable player, who can either play guard or forward, Silverman played in 27 games during the 2004-05 season for the Penguins as they finished with a record of 5-23 (2-14 in the Horizon Conference). Silverman averaged 5.6 points (sixth on the team), 2.1 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game. He is a pre-Business Management major and participates in the schools Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

Career Highlights:
Silverman went to Maharishi High School in Iowa and excelled throughout his senior year. Averaging 25 points, nine rebounds and four assists per game, in an eye catching season. In his high school career, the marksman broke school scoring records for both career and single season. He was once picked second-team all-state and was a first-team all-state Class 2A selection in his senior year.

Zach went to Indian Hills Community College of Ottumwa, Iowa, for his freshman and sophomore year. Filling in as a utility player mostly, the multi-positional freshman scored 7 points per game. As a sophomore, he was among the stars of a successful Indian Hills team. Silverman scored 10.9 points (second highest on the team), took down 3.6 rebounds and gave out 2.4 assists per game. His 86% from the free-throw line was a school record, and his career 81% is also a school best. Zach also shot 40.4 from beyond the arc, and helped the team to a 22-9 record, before losing to Iowa Western in the semifinals of the Region XI Tournament. Silverman won NJCAA Division I All-Region XI honors at the seasons end.
