Arthur Feldman

Feldman played forward at Duquesne in the early 1930s and helped lead the team to a 19-2 record as a senior in 1933-34. He later played professionally and became a head coach in high school.

Career Highlights:
A forward, Feldman grew up in Monessen and led Monessen High School to three consecutive sectional titles from 1928-1930. He then attended Duquesne University (in Pittsburgh) and was a three year starter under head coach Chick Davies. During his sophomore season in 1931-32, Feldman helped lead the team to a 14-6 record. One of their losses was to CCNY (City College of New York) by a score of 24-18 and Feldman scored six points in the contest (That year, CCNY won the mythical Eastern title was led by Hall of Fame coach Nat Holman). Later that season, Feldman led the Dukes with 14 points in a 38-32 win over George Washington, handing GW their first loss of the season.

The following year, Duquesne had an outstanding season as they finished with a record of 15-1. Their only loss came to Westminster in the second game of the season by a score of 25-23. They then won their next 14 games. In 1933-34, Feldman's senior season, they opened the year with nine more victories (including a win over Westminster) to run their win streak to 23 games. In the tenth game of the season, however, they lost against to Westminster, 34-27. They also lost their next game to Pittsburgh (31-29), but then won their final ten games to finish with a record of 19-2. Their 19 victories established a school record for wins in a season (since surpassed).

After graduating from Duquesne, Feldman played one season of professional basketball in the Eastern League and then became a coach, eventually returning to his alma mater, Monessen High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Feldman is a member of the Mid Mon-Valley All Sports Hall of Fame, the Duquesne University Sports Hall of Fame, and the Western Pennsylvania Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. He moved to Florida in his later years and was president of the Jewish Synagogue in Lehigh Acres, and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
