Maister, who played both guard and forward while at Syracuse University, was a three-year starter, beginning his sophomore season in 1931-32. One of the best games of Maister's career came on February 4, 1933 when he scored 15 points in a 35-27 victory over Colgate. Only five days later, Maister scored ten points in a 46-30 win over Oberlin. Following the season, Maister was named the team's Most Valuable Player.
