Cyril Haas

Profile in the Jews In Sports Online virtual museum.

In selecting Haas as All-Ivy League in 1917, Princeton University coach F.W. Luehring said, "At guard Captain Haas is easily first choice. Last year, he was selected as the best forward in the League, and this year, shifting to guard, he played the greatest season of his career. He is very probably the greatest basketball player that Princeton ever had, and in my judgement ranks with men like (Harry) Fisher of Columbia...as one of the five best players the League has produced."

The Tigers were also a better team as they finished 16-4 (8-2 in conference). Going into the season finale, the Tigers had a chance to win the Ivy League title, but they fell to Pennsylvania, 16-14. Their other conference loss was also at the hands of the Quakers.
