Career Highlights:
Born in Brooklyn, Small began his career in the mid-1940s and fought the majority of his early fights in the New York area. Early in his career, he defeated Baudilio Valencia twice before meeting the more experienced Lee Sala. In March 1949, Small fought his first bout outside of New York and lost a ten-round decision in Cleveland, Ohio.

The following year, Small fought Laverne Roach and knocked out his opponent in the tenth-round. According in boxrec.com, Roach died from injuries sustained in the fight. Small returned to the ring three months later and fought Hall of Famer Kid Gavilian in May 1950. He lost a ten-round decision.

After getting knocked out in the tenth round by Billy Kilgore in February 1952, Small then fought future world middleweight champion Joey Giardello and was knocked out in the tenth round. He retired in the mid-1950s.
