Curly Nichols
A welterweight for most of his career, Nichols turned professional in 1937. Three years later, Curly fought John McGrath to a four-round draw in New York City, but then lost a six-round decision to McGrath in December 1940. The following year, Nichols fought contender Joey Iannotti twice, losing the first bout and drawing the second in eight rounds; in 1942, they fought a third time, and Curly was knocked out in the sixth round. Nichols also fought welterweight contender Lulu Constantino in 1941 (a six-round loss), and faced the legendary Willie Pep in 1942 (an eight-round loss). Curly retired in 1947, having won 50 of 65 career decisions.
