One of many Jewish fighters from Newark, New Jersey in the 1920s and 1930s, Sollie fought Georgie Balduc in 1928; the bout ended in a ten-round draw. The previous year, he fought Jewish contender Joe Glick and lost a ten-round decision.

Career Highlights:
A southpaw (left-handed) fighter from Newark in the late 1920s and early 1930s, Castellane was considered one of the top left-handed fighters of his day. Beginning his pro career in 1925, when he fought for five dollar purses, Sollie was good enough that by 1927, he earned $1,500 after defeating a fighter named Al Delmont. One of Newark's most popular fighters during his career, Castellane was considered a humble man who took care of his widowed mother.
