The New England amateur featherweight champion in 1928, Diamond turned professional that same year and fought as a lightweight. In July 1930, he fought former Olympic boxer Harry Devine in Worcester, Massachusetts, and lost a 10-round decision. Two years later, Diamond fought welterweight contender Baby Joe Gans and was knocked out in the seventh round.
