Outside of the chess world Vidmar was an expert in electrical engineering, a member of the Slavik science academy, and president of the of the Lublyanskiy University.

June 22, 1885 - Oct. 9, 1962

Career Highlights:

Vidmar served as a mediator for FIDE and refereed matches for World Championship (1948), as well as the 1950 Olympics, among others.

He took first-place victories in several international tournaments, incuding Gettisberg in 1909, Vienna in 1917, and Bazel in 1952.

Milan Vidmar believed that logic was the most important asset of chess. Czechoslovakian chess player R. Retin said of him, "Vidmar must be considered one of the strongest contemporary chess players. He was never faced with serious failures... Thanks to the clarity and precise technique of Vidmar's play, his games are a great learning sourse for any student of the art of chess."
