Thaler, Michael

In the year 2000, when Thaler was 11, David Barry and Hautzig Berg published a book about his short career. The book "Opening Moves : The Making of a Young Chess Champion: Michael Thaler" includes in depth analysis of several of his games and his style. Michael is currently rated 1900 in the USA.

Michael enjoys playing the piano and is a competent baseball player as well.

Career Highlights:
Michael started playing soon after his fourth birthday. He quickly and easily won the kindergarten national championship and was soon playing, and beating, elementary school children.

The young player participated in the 2002 World Championship competition and placed 18th in the under 10 division. He showed a more complete game than he did in the 2001 competition where he placed 24th in the same division. Thaler took a break and did not compete at the 2003 competition held in Halkidiki, Greece.
