Lasker, Emanuel

Lasker served in the German army in WWI, and was captured by the British army. He earned his freedom by winning the championship of London.

In peace-time, he was by profession a mathematician.

Career Highlights:

2nd World Champion: 1894 - 1921.

Living in New York from 1902 to 1907 Lasker edited the Lasker's Chess Journal. He successfully wrote on the subject of chess, and during his career, brought attention to the international chess competition.
