Gulko, Boris Frantsevich

In the 1970s, Gulko and his wife, Anna Akhsharumova-Gulko, tried to emigrate from Russia several times, resulting in professional persecution at the hands of the Russian government. For example, Boris played Kasparov twice in the 1980s (USSR), winning both matches, but the record of his victories was never made official.

The Gulkos were able to successfully emigrate to America in 1986.

Gulko was the only player to win both the U.S. and the USSR championships.
