Fine, Reuben

Fine was a professional psychoanalyst, and successfully wrote on the subject of Chess.

Career Highlights:

In the International tournament Fine tied for victory in 1935. He came in first in 1936-1937, and finished in a triple-tie in 1938.

Reuben played on the U.S. team in Olympiads of:
1933: scoring 9 points out of 13
1935: 9 out of 17
1937: 14 out of 16 (best result of play on the second board)

A 1948-49 U.S. Champion, Fine won the 1939 American Chess Federation championship, defeating the world titleholder twice.

In 1945 he won the U.S. Speed Championship (10 seconds a move).

Fine was said to have possessed a keen strategic and technically flawless playing style.
