Mitch Marrow

Described by Pro Football Weekly as a 'weekend warrior who looks as if he were weaned on a Cybex weight machine,' Marrow lit up the Indy Combine before the 1998 Draft. At 6'4" and 280 pounds, Marrow ran the 40 in 4.55, bench-pressed 275-pounds 38 times, had a 38'5" vertical leap and broad-jumped 10'10". He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers, but never played a down in the NFL because of a recurring back injury.

Career Highlights:
While Marrow was a student at the University of Pennsylvania, he was one of the Ivy League's dominant defensive players in the 1990s. A three-year starter, Marrow had 48 tackles, six sacks, and seven tackles for losses in 1995. Named second team All-Ivy League that year, he helped the Quakers finish in second place with a 5-2-0 record (7-3-0 overall).

In 1996, Marrow had his "breakout" season with 60 tackles, 16 1/2 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, and three passes broken up and was named first team All-Ivy League -- he broke school records for sacks and tackles for losses. Penn finished the season with a 5-5-0 record (3-4-0, fifth place in conference).

In 1997, although Marrow suffered from a viral infection which slowed him down for the entire season, he still registered 30 tackles and three sacks, and was still named first team All-Ivy League. Against Princeton, he almost single-handedly won the game with six tackles, three sacks, and one forced fumble.

Unfortunately, Penn found out that Marrow was a part-time student, and was therefore ineligible to play during the 1997 season, as only full-time students are eligible for the football team. Penn self-reported the violation and the Quakers were forced to forfeit all the games that Marrow played and their record dropped from 6-4-0 overall (5-2-0, second in conference) to 1-9-0 (0-7-0 in conference). .

Marrow was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round (72nd overall) in the 1998 NFL Draft. During training camp that year, he injured his back and underwent surgery for a herniated disk, forcing him to miss the entire season. In 1999, Marrow re-injured his back during the spring mini-camp. On July 16 of that year, Marrow and the Panthers agreed to an injury settlement. In the end, he practiced only four times with the team and never played a down.
