Irving Kupcinet

After playing college ball at North Dakota, Kupcinet played one season as a blocking back in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1935. When an injury shortened his career, Kupcinet became a well-known columnist for the Chicago Sun Times. Kupcinet's first position with a newspaper was as columnist for the Chicago Daily Times (1935-1943). His "Kup's Column" has been featured in the Chicago Sun Times since 1943. He was also was a longtime talk show host. "Kup's Show" ran from 1958-1986. Kupcinet also worked in radio, broadcasting Chicago Bears football games from 1953-1976, and was a television commentator for WBBM-TV. He is a recipient of Peabody and Emmy Awards. In 1960, Irv was named "Man of the Year" by the Jewish National Fund.

Career Highlights:
Kupcinet played for North Dakota in the mid-1930s as a back. In 1933, the Fighting Sioux had a record of 3-5-1. The following year, they improved to an impressive 7-1, outscoring their opponents 88-10, and Kupcinet was selected for the 1935 College All-Star Game. After graduating in 1935, Kupcinet played in only two games in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles, who ended the season 2-9-0, fifth in the NFL East.
