Heller played on the offensive line for Boston University in the late 1940s. In 1947, he was named AP All-New England first team and Boston had a record of 6-3-0. In 1948, Heller was named AP All-East honorable mention as Boston improved to 6-2-0. In 1949, the team began the season with six consecutive victories before losing their final two to Maryland and St. Bonaventure. Heller is a member of the BU All-Time Team and of the Boston University Athletics Hall of Fame.
