The following year, Vanderbilt compiled a record of 8-1-2, outscoring their opponents 295-93, and avenging the previous year's defeat by beating Alabama, 14-7. In 1928, Pluto was the alternate captain and was named All-Southern and first team Jewish All-America as the Commodores had a record of 8-2-0.
