Career Highlights:
In 1926, the Panthers had a record of 5-2-2. The following year, they vastly improved and fielded one of the best teams in the school's history. In their first nine games, they outscored their opponents 283-20 and had seven shutouts. They finished the regular season with a record of 8-0-1 (their only tie was to Washington & Jefferson, 0-0) and qualified for the school's first ever bowl game.

Pittsburgh entered the Rose Bowl as slight favorites over Stanford, but could muster little offense. In the third quarter, Pitt scored a touchdown on a fumble return but missed the extra point, which proved costly. Stanford scored later in the quarter, made their extra point, and held on to win the game 7-6.

In 1928, Pitt outscored their opponents 117-15 and had seven shutouts, but finished the season with a record of 6-2-1. The Panthers lost to West Virginia, 9-6, and Carnegie Tech (with lineman Saul Mielziner), 6-0.
