A weightlifter for the Israeli Olympic team, Romano was killed by Arab terrorists at the 1972 Munich Games. Along with wrestling coach Moshe Weinberg, Romano attempted to hold off the terrorists at the door and allow their fellow Israelis time to escape. Both men were immediately killed and the terrorists took nine Israelis hostage (all would later die). Romano was 33 years old.

Career Highlights:
Born in Libya, Romano emigrated to Israel as a child. A member of the National weightlifting team, Romano was a ten-time National champion as a middleweight and lightweight. While still a top competitor, he also coached and managed the weightlifting department of Hapoel Tel Aviv. Besides weightlifting, Romano had been an interior decorator in Tel Aviv.
