Greenberg played as a back at Rutgers in the late-1920s. In 1927, the team had a record of 4-4-0 and followed that with a record of 6-3-0 in 1928 (he led the team in rushing yards and scoring). In 1929, Ben's final season, the Scarlet Knights had a record of 5-4-0 as Greenberg scored four touchdowns for the team. After graduating in 1930, Greenberg played two games in the NFL for the Brooklyn Dodgers, who compiled a record of 7-4-1 that year. One of Ben's teammates was Izzy Yablok.
